The Yellowstone Alpaca Breeders Association (YABA) is open to anyone who
loves alpacas and is interested in raising alpacas as a viable alternative livestock
or an investment in a country lifestyle. The tri-state area of Montana, Wyoming
and Idaho has attracted many people seeking relaxed country living who have
sought for a type of livestock to meet their needs. Alpacas fit the bill, not only
by being part of a GREEN industry, but because they are easily cared for, easy
on the land, provide for tax advantages typical of all farming, produce a renewable
resource (fleece), and are gentle creatures that have a remarkable effect on
humans.
Although alpacas have been a part of the landscape in this region for some time,
in 2008 efforts began to bring solidarity to our growing alpaca community. Many
needs and wants were identified that could be better served by having a united
voice and a depth of experience. Therefore, the Yellowstone Alpaca Breeders
Association, YABA, a non-profit entity was conceived and is growing fast.
The members of YABA share a vision of the economic contribution of alpacas
and the opportunities of raising environmentally friendly livestock as part of the
overall livestock industry. This vision comes with its own set of needs and goals.
YABA provides a depth of experience and talent, as well as the commitment
to meet those expectations, thanks to the diversity and support of the YABA
membership.
YABA seeks to provide service to the alpaca breeders and enthusiasts in
the region, to share the experience with all who are interested, to support
the camelid veterinary community with additional resources, and to provide
education to the public about alpacas and alpaca fiber. If you are not already
a member, please consider joining. Through your support, YABA can be a strong
and viable organization that works for us all.
